Over the past few weeks, Karli has told you a lot about herself, and also about our relationship. It has been so fun for me to get to relive some of that and look back on so many fond memories. I think it has given a great insight into who we are, and you could learn a lot about us from those stories. But I realized that I haven’t taken the time to talk about myself yet, so here it goes!

I’m David, and I am the second half of our husband and wife team. I have only been doing photography for about two years, but I feel like I have learned so much in that time! I work a full time production coordinator job at a small business in Boise, so photography is just a part time gig for me… for now! So here are 5 Things you may not have known that will give you a better insight to who I am!

1. I am originally from the great state of Minnesota!

I was born in Minnesota, and lived there until I was five years old. I am extremely passionate about the Minnesota Vikings, and also love to follow the other sports teams in Minnesota like the Timberwolves. Unfortunately, none of the Minnesota sports teams are ever that good, but we’ve gotten used to watching them lose. Ha! I also love spending time at the lake and on the water, which I attribute to those years growing up in Minnesota, as well as times we have gone back to visit family and friends. Some of my best childhood memories include spending all day on a boat water skiing, wake boarding, and tubing!

2. Most of my life to this point revolved around golf!

I spent almost every hour of daylight from age 10 to 22 on the golf course. I was lucky enough to travel around Idaho, and the United States chasing a little white ball around a field. I even got to play tournaments in Hawaii and Mississippi. My golf career finished after four years on the Boise State University golf team after I realized that I didn’t have anything close to what it took to become a professional golfer. I also met this blonde girl who may have had something to do with the decline of my golf game, but that is a story for another time. Ha!

3. I graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Business and Human Resource Management.

Going into college, I was looking for a degree that was diverse, had job potential after college, and that I might enjoy while I was in school. I think it’s crazy to ask an 18 year old kid to decide what he or she is going to spend the rest of his life doing, but by choosing a degree, that is exactly what I was doing… or so I thought! I’m not totally working in my field in my current job, and it definitely didn’t have a whole lot to do with wedding photography, but I think a lot of what I learned has been really valuable thus far! I am able to apply a lot of accounting principles, excel related training, and general business good practices both at my day job, and to our photography business. The best of both worlds!

4. I used to hate weddings!

Growing up, my wedding experience used to consist of going to some place with a bunch of older people that I didn’t really know. I then had to sit through an hour long ceremony that I wasn’t particularly interested in. Worst of all, it meant I had to take an afternoon off from playing sports with my friends. Ugh! Oh well, at least I got a decent meal and some cake. Needless to say, my view on weddings has changed a bit over the years. I love watching people celebrate one of the most important and most joyful days of their lives. I really started to enjoy weddings when I started dating Karli, but all of that culminated with our wedding last October. I realized how important that day was to me and I can truly say it was the best day of my life. Having so many people there to support us as we stepped into this new chapter of life was overwhelming. I am so honored and excited to be a part of that day for so many other couples. Some of my favorite memories of the day were with our vendors, especially our photographer, and I love the idea that Karli and I get to do that with other couples!

5. I specialize in making grooms feel comfortable and confident.

One of the things that Karli and I learned during our wedding is just how uncomfortable you can feel behind a camera! Having all of the attention on you for an entire day can be overwhelming. In our experience, the groom tends to be a little bit less comfortable in front of the camera than the bride, so I make it my goal to make the groom feel great. A lot of this starts with having fun! If you are having a great time, your photos are going to turn out so much better than if you are stiff and uncomfortable. Whether it is a stupid joke, or a little cue that can make you laugh, I am all about it! I also think I have developed an eye for what looks good in terms of posing, so that both the bride and groom love the way they look and feel in your photos. In my opinion, your photos should be one of the most fun parts of your day, and it is our job to make that happen!
